The little white dress

Posted in Fashion, Pop culture on February 21, 2011 by Skytalker

I find it more beautiful when a woman looks gorgeous in a little white dress than in a little black one. More so when said woman is over 40. For pointers, see Jennifer Aniston and Nicole Kidman in the movie Just Go With It. I saw it this afternoon, and I found it entertaining.

Afterthought: I’m getting tired of the “she’s not you” line as in, “She’s sweet and funny, but I don’t want her because she’s not you.” I don’t buy it as the final, convincing line before the conciliatory kiss, unless the person doing the convincing is Elvis, and the line is from his song of the same title. Speaking of Elvis — that’s a man who can pull off an all-white ensemble.

Motivational dresses

The red one is size 6, and the cream one is extra small. I got them from H&M today. The cream one doesn’t look too flattering here; but the fabric outline you see is actually of the translucent outer layer, and the dress has an inner layer of cloth that gives a better silhouette. Anyway, the third dress (purple) doesn’t say anything on the tag, and I got it a while ago in the Philippines so I don’t remember what size it is. My goal is to fit well into these three dresses (without sucking my tummy in!) by April 17. That’s the day of the Sun Run, for which I have a workout plan in place. These dresses are just additional motivation for sticking to the workout plan. Let’s do this!

I want a reason to wear something like this. I need to be nominated for an Oscar. Sent from my BlackBerry® smartphone

Skin deep

Posted in Fashion on August 16, 2010 by Skytalker

They say that beauty is only skin deep. Well, so are most scars.

What did we learn today?

1) Wearing heels (just two inches) and slacks and a nice top and my hair down is good. It was refreshing — quite different from my usual flats-jeans-shirt-cap ensemble. I haven’t worn heels since…I can’t even remember when!

I hereby declare this the girly wardrobe week.

“Yes, you don’t feel as comfortable in clothes that fit as you do in your pajamas. That’s a good thing. You’re navigating a world where you need to have your wits about you. If you’re in a lackadaisical comfort haze, you can’t be engaged in the world the way you need to be.” — Project Runway’s Tim Gunn

Of course, it wasn’t difficult for me to take my shoes off under my desk and sit in sort of a lotus position. Pretty AND comfy, beat that.

2) I like when people smell nice. I got into the elevator as a guy was getting out. He left a scent of talcum powder. Later on, when I went into the washroom, it smelled like mint-flavoured ice cream. Maybe someone brushed her teeth.

(Of course, there’s also the instance of the elevator ride with the dude who smelled like he didn’t shower this morning AND he hasn’t washed his bedsheets in a while. Ew.)
